Robbins is the eldest of three children, and his parents divorced when he was seven. He is of Croatian descent from both sides of his family. His mother then remarried several times, including a marriage with Jim Robbins, a former semi-professional baseball player who legally adopted Anthony when he was 12. Robbins grew up in North Hollywood and had a difficult childhood. His mother was addicted to drugs and alcohol and was physically abusive. He had to protect his brother and sister and became a practical psychologist out of necessity. Robbins attended Glendora High School.
