Linwood Barclay is a renowned author, humorist, and columnist based in Canada. Born in 1955 in Connecticut, USA, his father was a commercial artist whose works were featured in Life, Look, and Saturday Evening Post. When Linwood was four, his father accepted a position with an advertising agency in Canada, thus beginning his Canadian journey. After his father's death when he was sixteen, Linwood worked odd jobs such as helping to run a cottage resort and a trailer park. He then went on to earn a B.A. (Honors) in English from Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. His first breakthrough as a writer came when he was hired by the Peterborough Examiner, a small Ontario daily. He wrote a popular column on humor for the Toronto Star, Canada's largest selling newspaper, until his retirement in 2008.
