Kiera Cass was born in May 1981 in South Carolina, and she proudly identifies as a child of the 80’s. Her father is Puerto Rican and her mother is white. She is the New York Times Bestselling author of “The Selection” trilogy, which began with the publication of The Selection in 2012 with HarperTeen. Initially, her ambition upon graduating high school was to pursue a career in theatre. She has stated, “I wanted to be a performer in the WORST WAY!” To pursue this dream, she took a semester off and did a bunch of local shows, taught at a theater camp, and attended Coastal Carolina University in the spring, majoring in Musical Theatre. However, after trying out several majors, including Music and History, she followed a love interest to Blacksburg and settled there. Over the course of the following year, she tried a lot of activities to pull herself together, which eventually led to her writing the story of The Selection.
